Goal: In order to ensure the quality of Geopath’s data and address the needs of the industry we need to accurately enforce media type name in order to know the correct total number of bulletins, posters, junior posters, mural, panels, and displays in the out of home world.
Definition: The media type name is Geopath’s standard media name and is broken down into 6 types defined by the size of the face. While the frame media name is broken down into many different types and is defined by the media operator.
Current State: The media type name rules are not being enforced at all times. While there are more than 1,300 frame media names in our database creating a wild wild west of media names. This can lead to packages being created with inventory that an agency or media operator is not expected to included.
Ideal State: We have a three tier media type classification structure that enables us to represent the many names media operators use to describe bulletins, kiosks, etc. while creating useful standardization for the out of home industry. This new media type field would be called Operator Frame Media Name. Within this new field media operators are able to name their inventory however they seem fit for their business needs. While enabling Geopath to create standards in the current Frame Media Name that can create a cohesive and useful standard that is not as broad as the media type names. For example, “panel” is a very board media type that encompasses many industry standard frame media names.

Media type name and frame media name would be updated across the Geopath database based on face sizes and other standards. Media type name and frame media names should be dependent on the size of face. This is what should inform these fields. While the operator frame media name is informed strictly by the needs of the media operator.

Policy:
The size of the face dictates the media type name and frame media name that is used for the frame.
Media type name and frame media name are non-negotiable and are enforced by the rules and standards we have in place.
