The illumination refers to the type of lighting both structurally and the range of time when the frame is illuminated. Illumination encompasses both sunlight and artificially lighting.

There are four standard

There are four types of illuminations. Each one refers to a specific type of lighting which allows for the frame and subsequently the content to be seen.

Illumination Type Description

Sunlit Ambient

Surface illuminated by ambient natural sunlight

Frontlit

Surface illuminated from the front by non-ambient source

Backlit

Surface illuminated from the back by non-ambient source

Artificial Ambient

Surface illuminated by ambient artificial light source

Use Cases:

There are multiple ways a frame can be illuminated. If a frame is non-digital and has light features such as the frontlit example below then this location has both artificial and natural lighting. The media operator will then need to indicate the hours of illumination which will include a start time and an end time.
